President Aliyev landed at Pakistan Air Force’s Nur Khan base and was greeted with a red carpet welcome. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, received the Azerbaijani leader, who was also honored with a 21-gun salute.
During his visit, President Aliyev will hold crucial meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari, and other senior officials. The discussions are expected to cover a wide range of topics of mutual interest aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations. Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are anticipated to be signed between Islamabad and Baku.
President Zardari is set to host a banquet in honor of the Azerbaijani president, who will also meet with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir. The foreign ministers of both countries will engage in talks at the Foreign Office.
The visit comes as part of a series of high-profile visits to Pakistan. According to reports, in the next five months, Pakistan is expected to welcome five heads of state, including Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Qatar’s Emir Tamim al-Thani, and Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Earlier this year, in April, Islamabad hosted the late Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi on a three-day visit. The visit included productive discussions and agreements to enhance bilateral cooperation in trade, connectivity, energy, and people-to-people contacts. The Iranian president’s visit featured meetings with key Pakistani leaders and was accompanied by a high-level delegation.
The visit of President Ilham Aliyev is expected to further solidify the robust partnership between Azerbaijan and Pakistan, fostering deeper strategic cooperation and mutual understanding on key international issues.
