The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, is set to hold a significant press conference today at 3pm. The briefing will focus on the recent spike in terrorism incidents across the country, which has heightened concerns over national security.
In response to the rising threat, the government has urged Afghanistan to take decisive action against militants operating within its borders. This call to action comes after the government sanctioned the launch of operation “Azm-e-Istehkam” last month, aimed at delivering a robust response to terrorist activities.
Bannu Cantonment Attack
In a recent and audacious assault, eight Pakistan Army personnel were martyred while valiantly thwarting a terrorist attack at the Bannu Cantonment. The security forces successfully neutralized 10 militants during the confrontation.
According to an ISPR statement, the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the Bannu Cantonment, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa—a region currently experiencing an upsurge in violence. The swift and courageous response of the security forces prevented significant destruction and loss of life.
The ISPR commended the security forces’ valiant action, which it described as a testament to the military’s unwavering resolve to combat terrorism. The statement also identified the Hafiz Gul Bahadur Group, operating from Afghanistan, as responsible for the attack. This group, along with other terror outfits supported by Kabul, has been implicated in similar incidents in the past.
Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry’s upcoming address is expected to provide further insights into the security measures being implemented to safeguard the nation and to reaffirm the military’s commitment to eradicating terrorism from the country.
