Renowned Dramatist Khalilur Rehman Qamar Kidnapped and Assaulted

Renowned dramatist and screenwriter Khalilur Rehman Qamar was kidnapped and assaulted by armed men, according to a case registered at the Sunder police station. The incident occurred on the night of July 15, 2024, and the FIR was filed on July 21, following Qamar’s return.

The FIR states that Qamar received a call from a woman named Amna, who invited him to her home under the pretext of discussing a potential drama project. Upon arriving at the given address, Qamar was ambushed by armed men who kidnapped and robbed him. The victim reported that the kidnappers subjected him to torture and moved him to various locations while demanding ransom from his relatives under the threat of death.

During the ordeal, the assailants confiscated Qamar’s mobile phone, watch, and cash, and forcibly transferred Rs 267,000 from his ATM card. After enduring several hours of torment, Qamar was blindfolded and abandoned in a deserted area by the kidnappers, who then fled the scene.

Qamar, known for his work in popular television dramas such as “Pyarey Afzal,” “Sadqay Tumhare,” and “Meray Paas Tum Ho,” as well as the film “Kaaf Kangana,” expressed his distress and urged the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice. He stated that he could identify the assailants if they were presented to him.

The police have initiated an investigation under sections pertaining to kidnapping and assault. They are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the suspects and recover the stolen items.

Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar’s career, spanning several decades, has not been without controversy. He has faced backlash for his outspoken views and public spats, notably with actress Mahira Khan and activist Marvi Sirmed. Despite this, he remains a significant figure in Pakistani television and film, with a loyal following of fans who admire his work.
