Trump Targets Harris Following Biden’s Exit from Presidential Race

In a major shakeup ahead of the November presidential election, Republican candidate Donald Trump declared that he believes Vice President Kamala Harris will be easier to defeat than President Joe Biden. This statement came shortly after Biden announced his decision to step aside as the Democratic candidate, endorsing Harris as his replacement.

“Harris will be easier to beat than Joe Biden would have been,” Trump asserted during an interview with CNN.

Trump and his campaign swiftly moved to criticize both Biden and Harris on social media, questioning Biden’s fitness to serve as president. Trump took to his Truth Social platform, stating, “Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve.”

Biden ended his reelection campaign on Sunday amid growing concerns from fellow Democrats about his mental acuity and ability to secure a victory against Trump. The president had faced increasing scrutiny following a lackluster performance in a televised debate with Trump last month.

The shift in the Democratic ticket prompted a rapid response from Trump’s camp. “We will suffer greatly because of his (Biden’s) presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly,” Trump posted on Truth Social. Other prominent Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, echoed this sentiment and called for Biden to resign if he was unfit to run.

While Trump and Biden had been nearly tied in recent polls, some surveys showed Trump gaining a slight lead following the debate. The Trump campaign has reportedly been preparing for Biden’s potential withdrawal, re-evaluating strategies and resources to address the strengths and weaknesses of a new Democratic contender.

Trump campaign advisers expressed confidence in facing Harris, suggesting they would link her to Biden’s record, particularly on contentious issues like immigration and inflation. The campaign released a statement labeling Harris as Biden’s “enabler in chief” and insisted that their records were inseparable.

The Republican National Committee quickly released a two-minute video attacking Harris’s immigration policies, accusing her of neglecting the issue despite her role in addressing illegal immigration from Mexico and Central America, as assigned by Biden in March 2021.

This development follows weeks of preemptive attacks from Trump’s allies aimed at discrediting Harris amid speculation that she might replace Biden on the Democratic ticket.

As the political landscape shifts, both parties are recalibrating their strategies for the upcoming election, setting the stage for a heated and pivotal campaign season.
