The National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET), a critical examination for medical aspirants in India, was marred by controversy as reports emerged of the exam paper being sold a day before the test, scheduled for May 5, 2024. According to Indian media reports, police operations in Patna, Godhra, and Rajasthan have recovered amounts ranging from 3 to 5 million rupees linked to the paper leak.
The scandal has sparked a political outcry, with opposition leader Rahul Gandhi launching a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. Gandhi accused the ruling party of supporting those who undermine the rights of ordinary students by manipulating the examination system.
In response to the incident, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan acknowledged numerous flaws in the educational system. However, Gandhi further criticized Pradhan, pointing out that while the minister listed the system’s shortcomings, he failed to address his own responsibilities in ensuring the integrity of the examination process.
The BJP’s silence on the matter has led to widespread criticism, with accusations that the law is not equally applied to the upper classes in India. The incident has raised serious questions about the integrity of the educational system and the government’s handling of such frauds, putting the future of many students at stake.
