Lahore police have arrested Aneela Riaz, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist, for physically attacking renowned stage actor Tahir Anjum outside the Punjab Assembly on Wednesday. The altercation, which escalated to the point where Riaz tore off Anjum’s clothes, has led to significant media attention and public discourse.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by Tahir Anjum, the incident occurred while he was passing by the PTI hunger strike camp set up outside the Punjab Assembly. Riaz, accompanied by several unidentified accomplices, allegedly attacked Anjum due to his critical activities and videos related to PTI Founder Imran Khan, which he had posted on social media.
Anjum, who was in his car at the time, described the attack as violent, noting that Riaz not only beat him but also tore his clothes during the confrontation. The actor immediately lodged a complaint, leading to the swift arrest of Riaz by the Lahore police.
Speaking to Samaa TV on Wednesday, Anjum confirmed the incident, stating, “I was attacked while passing by the PTI camp. I plan to consult with the leadership of the PML-N, of which I am the cultural wing president, before deciding on any further legal actions. I will take the final decision to file a case after consulting the leadership.”
The police have registered a case against Aneela Riaz and her unidentified accomplices and are considering additional legal steps. This incident has highlighted the ongoing tensions and political activism surrounding the PTI hunger strike camp, drawing widespread attention to the volatile political climate in Lahore.
