Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Iran on Wednesday, according to separate statements from the Palestinian group Hamas and Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards. The assassination has sparked a wave of reactions from around the world, highlighting the global implications of his death.

“My father survived four assassination attempts during his patriotic journey, and today Allah has granted him the martyrdom that he always wished for. He was very keen to establish national unity and strived for the unity of all Palestinian factions. We affirm that this assassination will not deter the resistance, which will fight until freedom is achieved.”
Iran:
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian condemned the assassination, vowing to defend the country’s territorial integrity and dignity. “The occupiers and terrorists will regret the cowardly act of killing Ismail Haniyeh.” The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs added, “The blood of martyr Ismail Haniyeh will never go in vain. Haniyeh’s martyrdom in Tehran will strengthen the deep and unbreakable bond between Tehran, Palestine, and the resistance.”
Iran has called a high-level security meeting, including the Supreme National Security Council and senior commanders of the Revolutionary Guards, to decide on their response to the killing.
Palestine:
In response to Haniyeh’s death, Palestinian groups announced a strike and mass demonstrations. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the assassination as a “cowardly act and a dangerous development,” urging unity among Palestinians against Israel. “The Palestinian people should remain united, act with patience and perseverance.”
Russia:
Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov called the assassination an “absolutely unacceptable political murder” and warned it would escalate tensions further.
Houthis:
Mohammed Ali Al-Houthi, head of Yemen’s Houthi Supreme Revolutionary Committee, denounced the assassination as a “heinous terrorist crime and a flagrant violation of laws and ideal values,” asserting that it would only strengthen Hamas’s resolve against Israel.
Turkey:
The Turkish Foreign Ministry expressed condolences to the Palestinian people and criticized the Israeli government, claiming, “The Netanyahu Government has no intention of achieving peace.” They warned that the attack could spread the conflict in Gaza regionally and called for international intervention to prevent greater conflicts.
Qatar:
Qatar condemned the assassination, calling it a “heinous crime and a dangerous escalation,” and criticized Israel’s continuous targeting of civilians in Gaza. They warned this would push the region into chaos and limit peace prospects.
Malaysia:
Malaysia unequivocally condemned the assassination and all acts of violence, urging for de-escalation and constructive dialogue. They emphasized the necessity for peaceful resolutions to conflicts.
China:
China also condemned the killing and expressed concern over the escalating conflict. “A ceasefire in Gaza must be reached as soon as possible to avoid further escalation of conflict and tensions. China has always advocated resolving regional disputes through dialogue and negotiation.”
