The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted one or two spells of heavy rains in Karachi from August 4 to 7. This comes as parts of the city saw drizzling and light to moderate rain on Thursday and Friday.
Starting from today, Friday, the city is expected to experience light to heavy rain showers. The PMD has warned that some areas may receive rainfall between 40mm to 60mm, with a few places possibly seeing up to 100mm.
Rain showers are also predicted for Saturday, August 5. The PMD had earlier forecasted moderate to heavy rains in Karachi from August 3 to 5.
On Wednesday night, heavy rains hit various parts of Karachi, flooding low-lying areas. Areas such as Saddar, II Chundrigar Road, Baldia Town, Defence, and North Karachi experienced intermittent showers.
The Met Office also predicted rain showers with lightning in other parts of Sindh due to strong monsoon winds from Rajasthan and the Arabian Sea.
Low-lying areas in Sindh might get flooded due to the heavy rains. The mountainous regions of Balochistan, including Kirthar, as well as rivers and streams, are at risk of flooding. Heavy rains could also lead to flash floods in Daddu, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, and Jamshoro.
