The Supreme Court has overturned a decision by the Lahore High Court and allowed a recount for three Muslim League-N (PML-N) members, giving them back their positions.
The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, reviewed requests for recounts in three areas: NA-154, NA-81, and NA-79.
The Court supported the PML-N leaders’ requests and confirmed the Election Commission’s decision to recount the votes. This ruling overturned the Lahore High Court’s earlier decision, which had favored independent candidates in these areas.
By a vote of 2 to 1, the Supreme Court sided with the Election Commission, emphasizing that its decisions should be respected. Justice Aqeel Abbasi disagreed with this majority decision.
The Court also criticized the Lahore High Court judges for their remarks about the Election Commission and ruled that their decision was not valid.
As a result, the Supreme Court reinstated PML-N members Azhar Qayyum Nahra, Abdul Rehman Kanju, and Zulfikar Ahmed. Previously, the Election Commission had declared these PML-N members as winners, but the Lahore High Court had overturned this decision in favor of independent candidates.
