The United States has denied any involvement in the recent political events in Bangladesh, where former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country.
White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said, “We have had no involvement at all. Any reports or rumors that the US was involved are simply false.”
On Sunday, Sheikh Hasina accused the US of trying to remove her from power, claiming they were interested in controlling Saint Martin Island in the Bay of Bengal. However, her son, Sajeeb Wazed, said that his mother never made such a statement.
After Hasina stepped down, an interim government was formed, led by Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Muhammad Yunus. This government is expected to organize new elections in Bangladesh.
The country has seen widespread protests and violence, especially after student demonstrations last month. These protests eventually turned into a movement to remove Hasina from office. Sheikh Hasina had been in power for 15 years, winning her fourth term in January in an election that was boycotted by the opposition and criticized by the US for not being free and fair.
After leaving Bangladesh, Hasina went to New Delhi.
