World’s heaviest man sheds 542 kg in remarkable transformation

Khalid bin Mohsen Shaari, once the world’s heaviest man, has lost 542 kilograms with help from Saudi Arabia’s former King Abdullah.

In 2013, Shaari weighed 610 kilograms and could not get out of bed. King Abdullah arranged for him to get free medical care.

A team of 30 doctors helped Shaari. They used a forklift and a special bed to move him from his home in Jazan to King Fahd Medical City in Riyadh. There, he got surgery and a special diet and exercise plan.

In six months, Shaari lost almost half his weight and could move more easily with physiotherapy. By 2023, he weighed 63.5 kilograms and had extra skin removed in several surgeries.

Now, Shaari is called “the smiling man” by his medical team.
