In a heroic effort, the Pakistan Army has launched a rescue operation in Gilgit-Baltistan, grappling with the aftermath of heavy rains and snowfall causing landslides and avalanches. The region has been hit hard, with continuous natural disasters posing threats to the local population.
One of the daring rescue missions involved the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) troops rescuing a trade convoy en route from Khunjarab, China to Soast port. Trapped by an avalanche and landslide near Koksel on the night of March 2-3, the convoy faced perilous conditions. FWO troops, displaying immense courage, not only rescued the convoy but also cleared avalanches, providing crucial medical aid and sustenance to passengers, including foreigners.
The Karakoram Highway (KKH) and Jaglot Skardu Road, major lifelines in the region, were not spared from the onslaught. FWO troops undertook a formidable task, successfully clearing the landslide-affected routes. However, the work is far from over, as the clearance operation is set to persist until all debris is removed from both roads.
The Pakistan Army’s ongoing rescue operations stand as a beacon of hope amidst the challenges posed by the relentless forces of nature in Gilgit-Baltistan.
