South African player Shabnim Ismail has etched her name in history by bowling the fastest ball at a speed of 132.1 kmph. The 35-year-old achieved this feat while playing for Mumbai Indians in a Women’s Premier League match against Delhi Capitals. The match took place at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi during the league’s second season in Bengaluru and Delhi.
Shabnim’s record-breaking delivery occurred during the second ball of the third over, challenging Australian captain Meg Lanning. The speedy delivery hit Lanning’s pads, showcasing the remarkable skill and pace of Ismail’s bowling. This isn’t the first time she has stunned the cricket world with her pace; she previously held the record at 128 kmph against West Indies in 2016.
The South African cricketer, the sole Muslim woman to play international cricket for her country, has also bowled at speeds of 127 kmph twice during the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Women’s World Cup. Shabnim Ismail’s remarkable achievement adds another chapter to her impressive cricketing career, leaving fans and fellow players in awe of her fast and formidable bowling abilities.
