Pakistan’s national cricket team, players are set to undergo a unique 10-day training with the Pakistan Army from March 25 to April 8, in a bid to boost the fitness levels. The decision, announced by PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, comes in response to concerns about the players’ activeness on the field, particularly in terms of hitting sixes. Naqvi expressed the need for improved fitness as the team gears up for upcoming matches against New Zealand, Ireland, England, and the T20 World Cup.
This isn’t the first time that Pakistan cricket has turned to military training for fitness. A similar camp was organized during Misbah-ul-Haq’s captaincy, resulting in memorable moments like Misbah celebrating a century with pushups and a military salute.
Naqvi stressed the importance of players prioritizing national duties over T20 leagues, urging them to make Pakistan their first priority. While acknowledging the significance of earning money, he emphasized the need for a balance that prioritizes the country.
Naqvi also hinted at possible enhancements to central contracts to incentivize players’ commitment to representing Pakistan. The training camp aims to prepare the team for upcoming challenges and elevate their fitness levels under the guidance of the Pakistan Army.
