Pakistan’s star javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem, is facing a major hurdle as he prepares for the Paris Olympics. Nadeem disclosed that his only international-standard javelin is now out of shape. This has forced him to train with a locally-made javelin, raising concerns about potential injuries.
“I’ve been using a locally-made javelin for Paris Olympics training for the past seven to eight years. The international standard one I had is no longer in good condition. I need five to six top-quality javelins for international competitions,” shared Nadeem.
He expressed frustration over the lack of available training grounds due to events, hindering his proper preparation. Despite recently undergoing knee surgery, the 27-year-old remains hopeful and plans to travel to South Africa for focused training.
Nadeem made history at the World Championship in Hungary last year, securing Pakistan’s first silver medal with an 87.82m throw. Although he missed several events due to fitness issues, he aims to regain top fitness soon.
The Paris Olympics javelin throw event, set in France’s largest venue, Stade de France, takes place on August 8, with the qualifying round on August 6. Arshad, who finished fifth in the Tokyo Olympics, is determined to overcome these challenges and make a mark in Paris.
