In an announcement on Thursday, Chairman of the Shariah Board Pakistan, Sheikh Al-Hadith Professor Dr. Mufti Muhammad Zafar Iqbal Jalali, has declared the minimum Sadaqah Fitr and Fidya for fasting this year. He stated that each person is required to pay Rs 300, which is approximately equivalent to two kilograms of wheat flour.
Dr. Jalali emphasized the significance of individuals, especially those who are financially well-off, to contribute according to their means. He provided the values for Sadaqah Fitr and Fidya, which are set at Rs600 for oats, Rs2,400 for dates, and Rs4,400 for raisins.
Additionally, he outlined the Fidya rates for fasting the entire month of Ramazan. These rates are set at Rs 9,000 for wheat flour, Rs 18,000 for oats, Rs 72,000 for dates, and Rs 132,000 for raisins. Dr. Jalali clarified that Fidya is specifically for individuals who are chronically ill or unable to fast with no hope of recovery.
He also highlighted that Fidya cannot be used as a substitute for abstaining from fasting, as travelers and those temporarily unable to fast are obligated to make up for missed fasts.
