Renowned French footballer Kylian Mbappe has taken legal action against a kebab shop in Marseille for using his name on one of their sandwiches. The shop, owned by Mohamed Henni, had described their sandwich as “a baker round bread, as round as Mbappe’s skull.”
Mbappe, who gained fame leading the French team in the 2022 football World Cup, sent a legal notice through his lawyer Delphine Verheyden demanding the removal of his name from the shop’s menu within eight days. Failure to comply would result in legal proceedings for unauthorized commercial use of his name.
Henni, a Marseille-based influencer with a significant following on Instagram, expressed his surprise and disbelief at the legal action. He questioned Mbappe’s priorities, stating, “Are you not ashamed? You have nothing else to do? Suing me for something so trivial? It’s unbelievable.”
He further defended himself, saying, “I didn’t think a player at this level had the time to think about me. He took time and money to attack me. I’m not hurting anyone, I do humor.”
Interestingly, the menu also includes a reference to Dimitri Payet, former Olympique Marseille and West Ham star, who is described as “a crepe as loaded as Payet.”
The dispute highlights the complexities of celebrity image rights and the impact of social media on modern-day legal battles.
