Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong paid a visit to President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday, sparking discussions on mutual interests, with a significant focus on enhancing cooperation and intelligence sharing to combat terrorism effectively.
The meeting, held at the presidential residence, underscored the importance of bilateral efforts in addressing security challenges. President Zardari assured the Chinese envoy of Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring the safety of Chinese citizens within its borders, pledging to take all necessary measures in this regard.
In a related development, President Zardari engaged in discussions on national security with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Asim Munir on Wednesday. The meeting, held in Islamabad, provided a platform for exchanging views on the prevailing security situation in the country.
COAS Gen Asim Munir extended felicitations to President Zardari on assuming the role of president and supreme commander of the Pakistan Armed Forces, acknowledging the significance of his new position in shaping the nation’s security landscape.
During the deliberations, Gen Asim briefed the president on the Army’s ongoing operations against terrorism, highlighting its preparedness to counter conventional threats effectively. The COAS also emphasized the Army’s significant contributions to developmental initiatives, particularly in the Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regions.
President Zardari commended the pivotal role played by the Pakistan Armed Forces in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He praised the Army’s efforts towards social upliftment in affected regions, emphasizing their dedication to national progress.
