In a concerning turn of events for cricket enthusiasts eagerly anticipating the Pakistan vs New Zealand T20I series, heavy rainfall forecasts in Rawalpindi are jeopardizing the scheduled matches.
The five-match series, slated to kick off on April 18 in Rawalpindi, faces potential disruption as the city braces for thunderstorms and consistent rainfall throughout the week, beginning tomorrow.
The Black Caps, led by Michael Bracewell, arrived in Islamabad early Sunday morning in preparation for the series against the Green Shirts. However, the impending weather casts doubt on the viability of scheduled practice sessions and the matches themselves.
With three of the five matches scheduled for Rawalpindi on April 18, 20, and 21, and the remaining two in Lahore on April 25 and 27, concerns loom over the feasibility of hosting the games as planned.
The situation is part of a larger weather pattern affecting various regions of Pakistan, including Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh, which have experienced moderate to heavy rainfall in recent days.
The inclement weather has brought relief to areas like Quetta, where heavy rainfall has broken the sweltering heat, offering a respite from the blistering conditions.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued forecasts predicting rain, windstorms, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms across several regions of Pakistan, including KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Islamabad, Punjab, Balochistan, and upper/southwest Sindh on April 18.
Looking ahead, the Met Office has forecasted rain on April 20 in KP, the federal capital, Punjab, northeast Balochistan, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, further complicating the scheduling of cricket matches and outdoor activities.
