In a worrisome turn of events for the Pakistan cricket team, the availability of Mohammad Rizwan for the remaining matches of the ongoing T20I series against New Zealand hangs in the balance following a hamstring injury.
Rizwan, a pivotal player in the top-order lineup, sustained the injury during the third T20I encounter against the Black Caps in Rawalpindi on Sunday. Notably, in that match, he achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the fastest player to reach 3,000 runs in T20 International cricket, accomplishing the milestone in his 79th T20I innings, surpassing the records of Virat Kohli and Babar Azam.
The team management is expected to make a decision regarding the participation of the right-handed batsman today after assessing the results of his scans.
This development follows the sidelining of another wicket-keeper batsman for Pakistan, Azam Khan, who was ruled out of the series against New Zealand due to discomfort in his right calf during a practice session. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) revealed that Khan has been advised a 10-day rest after radiology reports confirmed a Grade One tear in his right calf muscle.
The five-match T20I series between Pakistan and New Zealand has seen a riveting competition, with the visitors making a remarkable comeback in the third T20I match, led by Mark Chapman, to level the series at 1-1. The remaining two matches are scheduled to take place in Lahore on April 25 and 27.
Prior to this, Pakistan secured a dominant seven-wicket victory over New Zealand in the second T20I on April 20, after restricting the Black Caps to a mere 90 runs in 18.1 overs. Unfortunately, the series opener was washed out due to rain.
