In a bid to equip Americans with essential artificial intelligence (AI) skills, tech behemoth Google has unveiled a substantial investment of $75 million in grants designated for workforce development and educational initiatives. According to a report by CNET released on Friday, the announcement underscores Google’s commitment to fostering AI literacy across diverse sectors.
James Manyika, Google’s senior vice president for research, technology, and society, emphasized the transformative potential of AI in driving economic growth. “AI offers significant opportunities to accelerate economic growth, particularly if people have access to the right resources and training,” Manyika stated in a press release.
As part of its initiative, Google is rolling out the “Google AI Essentials” online course aimed at imparting foundational AI skills and best practices. The course, available for $49 on Coursera, offers a comprehensive 10-hour curriculum tailored to equip participants with practical AI skills applicable to their professional endeavors.
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate validating their proficiency in AI fundamentals. Partnering institutions such as Miami Dade College and Darden Executive Education and Lifelong Learning will facilitate the course for students and working professionals, while Citigroup has committed to utilizing the program to upskill its employees.
