In a poignant New Year’s message to the Arab world, an unexpected revelation emerged from the shadows of history. The daughter of the late Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein took to social media to announce the unveiling of a fragment of his father’s memoirs, written during his time in American detention.
Raghad Saddam Hussein, the daughter of the former president, took to Twitter to share this significant moment with the world. In a tweet that stirred emotions across the Arab nation, she wrote, “Happy New Year to the Arab nation, the nation that has always been the most important in your struggle, but the nation is not fine and Iraq is not fine, father.”

She continued, “Nations have attacked it, but I promised you that #العراق would be fine, God willing, and today I decided to start publishing a small part. From your memoirs in my own way, because publishing houses have ‘warnings against publishing them,’ and today will be important for many of your fans and even others.”
Accompanying the message were 40 photographs, described as “a very small part” of Saddam Hussein’s memoirs during his captivity. These images, undoubtedly poignant and historical, offer a glimpse into the mind of one of the most polarizing figures in recent Middle Eastern history.
Saddam Hussein, who ruled Iraq with an iron fist for over two decades, was captured by U.S. forces in December 2003. His subsequent trial and execution marked the end of an era for Iraq, but the legacy of his rule continues to shape the region’s geopolitics.
The decision to release these memoirs comes at a time of heightened tensions and uncertainty in the Middle East.
