In a fervent plea to the United Nations General Assembly and Security Council, Pakistan has called for immediate action to address what it terms as India’s alarming new strategy of conducting cross-border assassinations.
During a poignant session on the “Culture of Peace” on Thursday evening, Pakistan’s UN Ambassador Munir Akram took the floor to underscore India’s purported targeting not only of Pakistan but also of minorities within its own borders, including Muslims, Christians, and others.
Ambassador Akram referenced a recent report by The Washington Post quoting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where he allegedly boasted about India’s capability to infiltrate and execute targets across borders, declaring, “This New India comes into your home and kills you.”
The Pakistani envoy pointed out that since the ascent of the BJP-RSS government to power in 2014, there has been a surge in what he described as “hate, oppression, and violence” against various minority groups in India, all fueled by the ideology of Hindutva.
“Unless Hindutva fascism is opposed, unless the sense of impunity of the BJP-RSS is ended, unless the Indian Muslims are protected against genocide, and unless the Kashmir dispute is peacefully resolved, wider violence and conflict in South Asia is a real and present danger,” Ambassador Akram cautioned.
He further lamented the global rise of hate, violence, and war, citing over 300 conflicts currently raging worldwide. Akram stressed the suppression of the right to self-determination in regions like Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir, alongside the proliferation of discrimination, bigotry, xenophobia, and Islamophobia.
In efforts to combat Islamophobia, Akram urged the UN Secretary-General to implement a Plan of Action for the protection of religious sites and disclosed that Pakistan had submitted a detailed dossier to the United Nations, containing evidence of over 2400 crimes allegedly committed by named Indian officials in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
“The Jammu and Kashmir dispute is an open wound which can once again trigger a disastrous conflict between Pakistan and India. It needs to be resolved urgently in accordance with the resolutions of the Security Council and the wishes of the Kashmiri people,” Akram emphasized.
He also highlighted what he described as India’s belligerence and aggression against Pakistan, citing statements from Indian officials threatening to annex Azad Kashmir and cross the Line of Control, as well as the adoption of what he termed as “dangerous doctrines” by India’s armed forces.
“India’s armed forces have adopted dangerous doctrines: ‘Cold Start’, to launch a surprise attack against Pakistan, another contemplating, and I quote ‘a limited war under the nuclear overhang’,” Akram stated.
Additionally, Ambassador Akram accused India of financing and sponsoring terrorist groups, particularly the TTP and the BLA, to conduct attacks within Pakistan’s borders, aiming to disrupt the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
