Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning concerning an impending heatwave set to hit the province starting today. The announcement comes amidst forecasts predicting a surge in temperatures by three to five degrees Celsius from May 8 to May 10.
In addition to the heatwave, PDMA has also alerted residents to anticipate thunderstorms and heavy rainfall throughout the ongoing week. According to the PDMA statement, South Punjab is anticipated to bear the brunt of heavy rains from May 10 to 11, while thunderstorms are expected to sweep across most districts of Punjab.
Irfan Kathia, the Director General of PDMA, urged the public to exercise caution in light of the anticipated weather conditions. He emphasized the potential threat posed to various crops across the province by the impending thunderstorms.
“The district administrations across Punjab have been briefed about the evolving weather situation,” Kathia affirmed.
The PDMA’s advisory comes subsequent to the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s (PMD) announcement on Tuesday, forecasting rain, dust storms, and thunderstorms in several regions. The PMD listed Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and numerous other cities to expect adverse weather conditions from May 10 to 12.
Moreover, areas including Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, and Bahawalpur are on alert for downpours on May 10 and 11, as per the latest information from the Met Office. Residents are urged to stay updated with weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to mitigate potential risks posed by the impending heatwave and thunderstorms.
