Lahore to get 300 new electric buses

In a bid to bolster sustainable transportation and address environmental concerns, the Punjab government has unveiled plans to procure 300 electric buses for the bustling provincial capital, Lahore. Senior provincial minister Marriyum Aurangzeb disclosed this decision during a pivotal meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to assess the progress of Punjab Chief Minister’s 33 Special Projects.

The meeting, which spanned over five hours, served as a platform to apprise Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz of the forthcoming initiatives aimed at modernizing transportation infrastructure across Punjab. Apart from Lahore, an additional 330 electric buses are slated to be introduced in other cities within the province.

Highlighting the ambitious agenda, Aurangzeb revealed that the initial phase of the construction and refurbishment of rural and basic health centers is on track for completion by October. Moreover, significant strides are being made towards achieving full vaccination coverage in major hospitals by June.

A substantial investment totaling Rs176 billion has been earmarked for the construction of expressways on strategic routes, further enhancing connectivity and facilitating smoother traffic flow, Aurangzeb elaborated. Responding to citizens’ concerns, a dedicated complaint hotline for all departments will be established in accordance with directives from CM Maryam Nawaz.
