Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to host a commendation ceremony today (Wednesday) to honor the Pakistan hockey team for their remarkable performance in the recently concluded Azlan Shah Cup. The ceremony aims to acknowledge the team’s efforts and boost their morale following their impressive display in the tournament.
The ceremony, scheduled to take place later today, will see PM Shehbaz personally congratulating the hockey players for their outstanding achievements. He is also slated to distribute prizes among the players as a token of appreciation for their hard work and dedication on the field.
Among the distinguished guests expected to attend the event are Rana Mashhood, prominent figures from the sports fraternity, and revered hockey legends, adding a touch of prestige to the occasion.
This gesture from the Prime Minister comes on the heels of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s earlier announcement, wherein she presented a monetary award of Rs30 million to the hockey team in recognition of their stellar performance in the tournament.
The Azlan Shah Cup, a prestigious international hockey tournament, witnessed Japan clinching victory in the final against Pakistan in a thrilling penalty shootout. Despite the loss, Pakistan’s journey to the final marked a significant achievement, as it was the first time in 13 years that the Green Shirts had reached the pinnacle match of the tournament.
