IHC grants bail to Imran Khan in £190m Al-Qadir Trust case

In a significant development, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case. The decision came with the condition of posting one million rupees as surety bonds.

A division bench, comprising IHC Chief Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangir, presided over the proceedings. Following the hearing, the IHC directed the authorities to release Imran Khan from Adiala Jail.

This verdict marks a crucial legal victory for Imran Khan, who has been entangled in legal battles concerning the Al-Qadir Trust case. The case pertains to allegations of illegal acquisition and construction of land for Al-Qadir University, involving significant financial transactions.

In a separate development, the Islamabad District and Sessions Court acquitted Imran Khan in two cases of vandalism registered during the PTI Long March. The acquittal came after a Judicial Magistrate found insufficient evidence to proceed with the charges against the PTI founder.

The legal saga surrounding Imran Khan has garnered widespread attention, particularly in light of his stature as a former prime minister and the founder of a major political party. The £190 million NAB reference, also known as the ‘Al-Qadir Trust case,’ has been a focal point of legal proceedings.

The reference alleges that Imran Khan and his wife acquired substantial land and assets from Bahria Town Limited, purportedly in exchange for providing legal cover to funds transferred by the UK’s National Crime Agency to the Pakistani government. The funds, amounting to £50 billion, were allegedly received during the PTI government’s tenure.

Furthermore, Imran Khan stands accused of concealing facts related to contracts, deceiving the cabinet, and diverting funds received under a settlement agreement. These funds, intended for deposit into the national treasury, were allegedly redirected towards the recovery of liabilities in Bahria Town Karachi, totaling £450 billion.

The legal battle surrounding Imran Khan’s alleged involvement in the Al-Qadir Trust case has been closely watched by the public and political observers. With his bail granted by the Islamabad High Court, the focus now shifts to the ongoing legal proceedings and their implications for the political landscape of Pakistan.
