The Pakistani government has expressed profound regret and concern over recent incidents of violence targeting foreign nationals, including Pakistani citizens, in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. In response, the Foreign Office summoned the Kyrgyz Embassy chargé d’affaires and lodged a formal protest.

According to a statement by the Foreign Office spokesperson, Chargé d’affaires Melis Moldaliev was presented with a démarche by Aizaz Khan, the Director General for Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and Central Asian Republics (CARs). During this meeting, Pakistan’s deep concerns about the reported violence against Pakistani students studying in Kyrgyzstan were communicated.

The Kyrgyz representative was urged to ensure the safety and security of Pakistani nationals residing in Kyrgyzstan. “The government of Pakistan takes the matter of the safety and security of its nationals around the world very seriously and will take all necessary measures to ensure their wellbeing,” the spokesperson emphasized.

The statement further noted that the Kyrgyz authorities have expressed regret over the violent incidents and have pledged to conduct a thorough inquiry to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In response to the violence, the Embassy of Pakistan in Kyrgyzstan has been actively addressing the situation by opening emergency helplines and providing assistance to students and their families. The embassy confirmed it has been managing inquiries and offering necessary support.

Pakistani Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Hasan Ali Zaigham is reportedly in close communication with senior Kyrgyz officials to secure the safety of Pakistani citizens. According to the Kyrgyz Health Ministry, four Pakistanis received first aid and were discharged, while one individual is still receiving treatment for a jaw injury.

On a related note, the Foreign Office has activated its Crisis Management Unit, as directed by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Pakistani nationals in Kyrgyzstan and their families can reach the unit at the provided contact numbers and email address for assistance.

The situation remains under close scrutiny as Pakistan continues to advocate for the protection of its citizens abroad.
