Afghanistan’s celebrated spinner, Rashid Khan, was met with a warm reception upon his return to Kabul after an absence of four years, a period marked by continuous participation in various international cricket tournaments.
Khan, arriving via a private airline, was greeted at Kabul International Airport by the chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and fellow players. His extended absence was due to commitments in multiple foreign cricket events, notably the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The ACB shared highlights of Khan’s homecoming at both the airport and their headquarters. Footage depicted a jubilant group of players showering petals on Khan as he arrived at the ACB headquarters. The star spinner also engaged with junior players, signing T-shirts and sharing moments of inspiration with the young cricketers.
After a brief stay at home, Rashid Khan is set to leave for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which will take place in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA) starting June 1.
The Afghan national team, having already departed for the West Indies on May 16, is currently in Saint Kitts and Nevis, where they are preparing for the upcoming tournament. Afghanistan will play their first match against Uganda on June 3, followed by games against New Zealand, Namibia, and the West Indies.
This year’s ICC T20 World Cup will feature 20 nations divided into four groups. Afghanistan is placed in Group C alongside the West Indies, New Zealand, Uganda, and Papua New Guinea.
