In anticipation of Eid-ul-Azha, the Punjab Home Department has enforced Section 144 across Lahore, prohibiting the sale of sacrificial animals on highways, streets, and alleys. This measure, effective immediately and continuing until June 20, aims to maintain law and order and ensure smooth traffic flow during the festive season.
Under the restriction, the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals are confined to eight designated livestock markets within the city. This decision follows a recommendation from the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore, emphasizing its necessity in the public interest.
The implementation of Section 144 seeks to prevent chaotic situations on the roads, ensuring uninterrupted traffic movement throughout Lahore. Authorities have warned of stringent actions against any violations to enforce compliance with the directive.
“The designated markets will provide a controlled environment for buying and selling animals, thereby reducing congestion and maintaining public order,” stated a spokesperson from the Home Department.
In related developments, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirmed the sighting of the Zilhajj moon in Pakistan, marking the commencement of the Islamic month of Zilhajj. Accordingly, Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated nationwide on Monday, June 17. The announcement followed a meeting chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad in Karachi, with zonal committees in Lahore and Peshawar also confirming the moon sighting.
This regulatory step underscores the authorities’ efforts to ensure a peaceful and organized Eid-ul-Azha celebration across Lahore, focusing on public safety and traffic management during this significant religious observance.
