Pak Army businesses: Backbone of economic and social support

The martyrs, veterans, retired officers, and youths of the Pakistan Army are invaluable assets to the nation, supported by a well-coordinated welfare system. The Fauji Foundation plays a crucial role in this effort, operating hospitals, schools, and providing various other forms of support to veterans and retirees in a dignified manner. This model of support is seen in many armies around the world.

Economic Contributions and Tax Collection

In the fiscal year 2022/2023, the Pakistan Army and its affiliated institutions made significant contributions to the national treasury, collecting around 360 billion rupees in indirect taxes and duties. This includes:

– Fauji Foundation Group:

Collected approximately 223 billion rupees.

– Army Welfare Trust:

Contributed about 3 billion rupees.

– Defence Housing Authority (DHA):

Deposited around 23 billion rupees.

– National Logistics Cell (NLC):

Contributed about 3.5 billion rupees.

– Other Institutions:

Various other army-run institutions also added substantial amounts to the treasury.

This substantial contribution underscores the fact that the Pakistan Army and its associated organizations are self-sustaining entities, not reliant on public funds. Contrary to common misconceptions, these organizations are significant taxpayers, contributing hundreds of billions annually.

Comprehensive Support and Services

Beyond financial contributions, the services provided by the Pakistan Armed Forces and their institutions to the people of Pakistan are invaluable. These services include:

– Quality Healthcare:

Hospitals and medical facilities like Combined Military Hospitals (CMHs) provide top-notch medical care.

– Education:

Numerous schools and colleges offer quality education.

– Housing:

DHA provides high-standard housing solutions.

– Employment:

These institutions generate employment for millions.

– Infrastructure Development:

The army is instrumental in building roads and infrastructure in remote areas.

– Agricultural and Mineral Support:

Assistance in agriculture and mineral extraction projects.

– Security and Stability:

Ensuring security and protection for government and private projects.

Civilian Integration and Employment

It is important to note that many civilians are employed and benefit from the army-run institutions. The presence of serving soldiers in these institutions is minimal, ensuring a balanced civilian-military workforce.

Addressing Misconceptions

Despite these extensive contributions, there are often misconceptions about the financial operations of these military institutions. Critics who frequently disparage these organizations often choose to reside in DHAs and seek medical treatment at CMHs, highlighting a disconnect between perception and reality.

The Pakistan Army and its affiliated institutions are not only pivotal in national defense but also play a significant role in economic stability and social welfare. Their contributions, both financial and service-oriented, are essential to the nation’s well-being, and their efforts should be acknowledged and supported rather than undermined by unfounded propaganda.
