Azerbaijan to hold parliamentary elections on Sep 1

Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan’s President has recently announced that the country will be holding its early parliamentary elections on September 1. According to Reuters, it is expected that the results from the upcoming elections won’t really change the composition of Azeri Parliament.

It is expected that Ilham, who has been in office since 2003 and has won his recent term in February with 92% of the vote, will get majority in the oil rich nation. Currently, Aliyev’s party holds majority in Parliament with 69 out of 125 seats.

It is worth mentioning that Azerbaijan shares borders with major powers including Russia and Turkey. It is also a signatory to the OPEC+ agreement, which limits output to maintain global prices.
