Pakistani scientist Dr. Mehmood Khan has joined an exclusive group of professionals granted Saudi citizenship.
Dr. Khan currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Hevolution Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating the development of treatments for aging-related conditions, compressing drug development timelines, and increasing accessibility to life-extending therapeutics.
The Saudi government awarded citizenship to Dr. Khan under its Vision 2030 initiative, which aims to attract and retain exceptional global talent to enhance the country’s economic and social development. This initiative began in 2021 with a royal decree allowing individuals in specialized fields such as science, medicine, culture, sports, and technology to apply for citizenship.
Dr. Khan was highlighted among high achievers who received Saudi citizenship this week in the Argaam report.
In a 2015 interview at OPEN Silicon Valley, Dr. Khan expressed pride in his Pakistani heritage despite not having had the chance to grow up in Pakistan.
Who is Dr. Mehmood Khan?
Dr. Khan earned his medical degree from the University of Liverpool Medical School in England. His career, spanning three decades, includes senior corporate and medical positions. He has served as CEO of Life Biosciences Inc., vice chairman and chief scientific officer of global research and development at PepsiCo (2007-2019), and president of global research and development at Takeda Pharmaceuticals (2003-2008).
A fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and the American College of Endocrinology, Dr. Khan has also chaired the US-Pakistan Business Council (2016-2019) and continues to serve as a board member of Reckitt Benckiser, a globally renowned British multinational consumer goods company.
