Pakistan has unequivocally stated it will not engage in negotiations with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Foreign Office announced on Thursday.
During the weekly press briefing, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch declared, “This terrorist group is responsible for the deaths of Pakistani and foreign citizens within Pakistan.”
Baloch highlighted the persistent threat posed by terrorist groups operating from sanctuaries in Afghanistan, using its territory to orchestrate attacks against Pakistan. She underscored Pakistan’s dedication to respecting Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, urging Kabul to reciprocate with similar actions to enhance regional security.
Addressing a query on national security, Baloch reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Plan, noting that the first phase was nearing completion. She clarified that contrary to reports, Pakistan had not agreed with the UNHCR to suspend this plan. The government, she added, has decided to extend the validity of Proof of Registration cards for Afghan refugees by one year, ensuring their legal stay.
In response to another question, Baloch spoke on Pakistan’s international relations, emphasizing the strong and multifaceted partnership with the United States. She stressed the importance of advancing this relationship based on mutual respect, sovereign equality, and non-interference in internal affairs.
The statements reflect Pakistan’s firm stance on national security and its strategic approach to both regional and international diplomacy.
