Lt Colonel Akbar (R) Sentenced to 14 Years for Sedition

In a decisive ruling, Retired Lieutenant Colonel Akbar Hussain has been convicted and sentenced by a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) under the Pakistan Army Act, 1952, for inciting sedition among army personnel, as announced by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The court found Hussain guilty on May 10, 2024, leading to a sentence of 14 years of rigorous imprisonment. His military rank was formally forfeited on July 26, 2024, as part of the punishment.

This case follows the convictions of Ex-Major Adil Farooq Raja and Ex-Captain Haider Raza Mehdi, who were similarly charged by the FGCM under the Pakistan Army Act, 1952, for inciting sedition. Both were also found guilty of violating the Official Secrets Act, 1923, which pertains to espionage and actions detrimental to the state’s security and interests.

Adil Farooq Raja was convicted on October 7, 2023, and Haider Raza Mehdi on October 9, 2023. Raja received a sentence of 14 years of rigorous imprisonment, while Mehdi was sentenced to 12 years. The forfeiture of their military ranks became effective on November 21, 2023.

These rulings underscore the Pakistan Army’s commitment to maintaining discipline and security within its ranks, reinforcing the serious consequences of actions deemed prejudicial to the state’s safety and interests.
