Former Sindh governor Dr. Ishratul Ibad has announced the launch of a new political party just days after confirming his return to the political arena following a years-long hiatus. Dr. Ibad, who previously led the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), has been residing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) since stepping down from his role as Sindh governor in 2016.
In his statement, Dr. Ibad, who served as governor for 14 years, expressed his intention to invite MQM-Pakistan (MQM-P) leaders to join his new party, setting aside past differences. He emphasized the urgent need for political unity to address the nation’s critical issues.
“The current government has less time,” Dr. Ibad asserted, contradicting ministers’ vows to complete their five-year tenure. BMI, a Fitch Solutions company, supports this view, predicting that the coalition government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif may collapse within the next one-and-a-half years due to economic challenges.
Dr. Ibad highlighted the alarming levels of political and economic instability and the deteriorating security situation in the country. He called for strict accountability measures against corruption to ensure economic prosperity.
“We need strict accountability against corruption to ensure economic prosperity,” Dr. Ibad said. “If governance fails, the situation can move in any direction. The country needs strict accountability at this time. Not only the corrupt elements, but also those who come down on merit should be held accountable,” he added.
