The Pakistani army has arrested retired General Faiz Hamid and three other retired officers. This was announced by the army’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), on Thursday.
The officers were taken into custody because their actions went against military rules. The army is also investigating other retired officers who might have worked with political groups to create instability in the country.
General Faiz was arrested earlier on August 12. He is accused of taking land and valuables from the owner of a private housing society. The Supreme Court had received a complaint about this last year. The Pakistan Army began investigating the case and found enough evidence to start a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) against General Faiz.
The investigation showed that General Faiz broke military rules several times after he retired. As a result, the army decided to take disciplinary action against him.
The complaint against General Faiz came from the CEO of a housing society, who said that the general and his men had raided his home and business, stolen property, and forced him to transfer his business to others. The Supreme Court asked the CEO to file his complaint with the proper authorities.
General Faiz retired in December 2022 after serving in high-ranking positions, including as the head of Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI.
