Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi expressed his desire to address a public gathering during his ongoing three-day official visit to Pakistan. However, citing unspecified reasons, President Raisi stated that the address couldn’t materialize as planned.
President Raisi, paying homage to the revered Allama Muhammad Iqbal, known as the “poet of the East,” visited his mausoleum in Lahore. During his visit, President Raisi emphasized the enduring bond between the people of Iran and Pakistan, asserting that they will always remain interconnected.
Reflecting on the significance of Allama Iqbal’s legacy, President Raisi underscored the poet’s anti-colonial message, stating it resonates deeply with Iran.
President Raisi’s arrival in Lahore was met with a warm reception by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz at the Allama Iqbal International Airport. Various government officials, including Punjab ministers and Iranian Consul General Mehran Mowahid in Lahore, were present to welcome the distinguished guest.
During his visit to Lahore, President Raisi is scheduled to visit GC University and hold meetings with Chief Minister Maryam and Governor of Punjab Baligh Ur Rehman. In light of the visit, the Punjab government declared a public holiday in Lahore for the convenience of residents and commuters.
Following his engagements in Lahore, President Raisi is set to travel to Karachi, where he will meet with Governor Kamran Tessori and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. In Karachi, he will also pay his respects at the mausoleum of Pakistan’s founder, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, before returning to Tehran on Wednesday.
