Hazim Bangwar slams critics of his fashion choices

In the aftermath of a controversial appearance that ignited widespread discussion, Hazim Bangwar finds himself thrust into the limelight once again, prompting a national conversation on professionalism and personal expression within Pakistan’s bureaucracy.

The commotion began when images of Bangwar’s unconventional attire surfaced online following a recent public event, capturing the attention of both admirers and critics alike. Former Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry, seized upon the moment to draw parallels between Bangwar’s fashion statement and the standards of the esteemed Indian Civil Service.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Chaudhry remarked, “Indian Civil Service was the first merit-based bureaucracy of modern world, the authors of Travelyn report could have never imagined in their wild dream the decline we are witnessing in Pakistan Civil Service…Show some respect to the office you are occupying.”

Conversely, actor Yasir Hussain offered glowing praise for Bangwar’s sartorial choice, heralding him as a trendsetter in his own right. “All awards on one side, Hazim Bangwar on one side,” Hussain declared, punctuating his sentiment with an approving emoji.

Responding to the escalating debate, Bangwar took to Instagram to address the mounting criticism head-on. In a statement, he underscored the challenges of navigating public scrutiny while striving to maintain a semblance of privacy in his personal life. Defending his right to individual expression, Bangwar reiterated his unwavering commitment to public service, stressing that his professional conduct has always been above reproach.

“I think that most people have forgotten that I’m human, and like any other human I too should be allowed to live my private life in peace,” Bangwar articulated. “I’ve left a life of luxury behind to serve my public. The price for which I pay every day by being criticised, trolled, bullied, and threatened for simply dressing well.”

Asserting his dedication to his duties, Bangwar drew parallels with other professions, highlighting the disparity in expectations placed upon public figures. “Professionally, I’ve carried my office with respect and dignity and always dressed appropriately. No doctor or officer wears their gowns or uniforms outside their office but I guess I’m expected to,” he noted.
